Please make sure that you are locking all valuables (cell phones, I-pods, cd players, cameras etc in your trunk or leaving them at home. Having these items in plain view inside your vehicle invites someone to take them. Additional to that note, please lock and keep your windows rolled up. Even with the weather getting warmer, windows rolled up is another deterrent to inviting someone to take items from your car.

Networking for parents: relationship building.
Purpose
: to create positive, productive and professional relationships with teachers in order to help children get the most from formal education.
Why is it important
? Networking is a skill that all successful individuals use in all aspects of life. The saying goes that "if you want to be a great baseball player, hang out with baseball players". It sounds simple but the idea is illusive. We need to help our students understand that we need each other and that we must develop synergistic relationships. Synergistic relationships can put students in positions to get what they have worked towards.
The following are guidelines for effective networking:
Courtesy (effective relationships need this)
Patience
(productive relationships demand this)
Reasonable & realistic expectations (the teacher has your child's best interests) what skills do you want your child to master?
Create a schedule of regular periodic contact dates
attend parent-teacher conferences: have specific issues to discuss. Write down specific concerns.
Think about a goal
. Know what you want. What does your child want? Make sure you ask "how can my child take better advantage of the experience"? Expect specific recommendations. Please expect your child to develop the values that enhance the education experience. Assume that the teacher has your child's best interests at hand. Networking is a valuable skill and it is necessary and essential in order for you to be an effective advocate for your child.

"They decided that they wanted to sell crepes at lunch for a couple of days," Nelson said. "I asked the principal about the possibility of my class doing a money-making project for Haiti. He thought it was a good idea."

Some of the other students signed-up to bring filling s and toppings for the crepes and some sgned up to make them during their lunch periods.
"Ten to fifteen students helped in some way to make this money-making project possible," Nelson said. "We did the project on the planned days, (Feb. 4-5)."
Crepes were sold for $1.00 and the students were able to raise $173.00, which was sent to a fund called "Help Haiti Heal".
